Chat Messages: Text messages you type or speak (via speech-to-text) to the AI tutor.
Learning Preferences: Your CEFR level (A1–C1), accent preference (US/UK), language mode, speech rate, and tutor mode settings.
Learning Data: Vocabulary lists, quiz scores, flashcard progress, and learning statistics.
Usage Data: App usage patterns, daily chat counts, feature interactions, and session information.
Purchase Information: Subscription status and in-app purchase receipts (processed by RevenueCat).
Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and advertising identifiers (for ad-supported free tier).

2. How We Collect Your Information

Directly from you: When you create an account, type or speak messages, save vocabulary words, take quizzes, and configure your learning settings.
Automatically: Usage analytics collected via Firebase, advertising identifiers via Google AdMob.
From third-party sign-in providers: Authentication data from Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

Generate personalized AI tutor responses tailored to your English level and preferences
Produce text-to-speech audio for tutor responses
Track your vocabulary learning progress and provide spaced repetition reviews
Manage your subscription and in-app purchase status
Display advertisements to free-tier users
Improve our app and services through aggregated analytics
Authenticate your identity and maintain your account

4. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing

To provide our services, we share certain data with the following third-party service providers. We do not sell your personal data to any third party.

Before using the AI-powered features of the app, you are presented with a clear data consent screen that explains:

Which third-party services receive your data
How the data is used

You must explicitly accept this consent to use the app's AI features. Without consent, AI chat functionality is not accessible.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secured servers and transmitted using encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information during transit and at rest.

Authentication tokens are securely stored on your device
Passwords (for email login) are hashed before storage
Chat history is maintained temporarily in server memory (last 20 messages per session)

7. Data Retention

Account data: Retained as long as your account is active
Chat history: Temporarily stored in server memory; not permanently persisted after session ends
Vocabulary and learning data: Retained as long as your account is active
Analytics data: Retained according to Firebase's standard retention policies

8. Your Rights

Access: You can view your saved vocabulary, learning progress, and settings within the app at any time.
Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app's Settings menu. This action is permanent and irreversible.
Withdraw Consent: You may stop using the app at any time. Account deletion removes all server-side data.
Data Portability: Your vocabulary and learning data are accessible within the app.

9. Children's Privacy

AI English Teacher is designed for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected data from a child under 13, we will promptly delete it.

10. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed by third-party services located outside your country of residence. By using the app and accepting the data consent, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws.

11. Data Tracking (iOS Users)

On iOS devices, we strictly adhere to Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. We request your permission to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites to provide a more personalized advertising experience via AdMob. If you grant permission, we use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) to show you relevant ads. If you decline, you will still see ads, but they will be less relevant to you. You can change your tracking preferences at any time in your iOS Settings > Privacy > Tracking menu.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
